3일 새벽 인도네시아 서부 파푸아 지방에 지진이 연이어 발생해, 10살 소녀를 포함해 최소한 3명이 숨지고 여러 명이 부상했습니다.
미국 지질조사국은 인도네시아 마노크와리시 북서쪽에서 진도 7.6의 지진이 지표면 35km 아래쪽에서 발생했다고 밝혔습니다.
인도네시아 정부는 지진이 처음 발생한 후에 진도 7.3의 여진이 계속됐다고 말했습니다. 마노크와리시 관리들은 지진이 건물들에 심각한 손상을 입혔고, 마노크와리시에 있는 무티아라 호텔을 포함해 최소한 건물 두 동이 무너졌다고 밝혔습니다.
한편, 일본 기상청은 인도네시아에서 발생한 지진으로 일본 해안가에 소규모의 해일이 발생했다고 말했습니다. 현재까지 이 해일로 인한 피해는 없는 것으로 알려졌습니다.
인도네시아는 태평양 지역에서 지질학적으로 불안정한 곳에 위치해 있어 지진과 화산폭발이 잦은 지역입니다.

A series of strong earthquakes struck eastern Indonesia's West Papua province early Sunday, killing at least four people, including a 10-year old girl, and injuring several others.
The U.S. Geological Survey says a magnitude seven-point-six quake occurred about 150 kilometers northwest of the town of Manokwari, at a depth of 35 kilometers.
Indonesian authorities say a series of powerful aftershocks measuring as strong as 7.3 in magnitude followed the initial quake. Reports from the region say the quakes left several buildings badly damaged and caused at least two buildings to collapse, including the Mutiara hotel in Manokwari.
Japan's Meteorological Agency says the initial quake also triggered a small tsunami that hit the Japanese coast. Officials have not reported any damage.
Indonesia is located on a geological fault line circling the Pacific Basin, known as the Ring of Fire. Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are common in the region.
