오바마 당선자는, 금융시장을 규제하는 증권거래위원회 위원장에 메리 샤피로 금융서비스감독원 원장을 내정했습니다. 증권거래위원회는 미국의 주요 투자 은행들의 도산에 앞서 뉴욕 월가의 재정기관에 대한 감독을 소홀히 했다는 비난을 받아왔습니다. 특히 버나드 매도프 전 나스닥 증권거래소 위원장의 투자 사기에 대해 경고하지 못했다는 비난도 받고 있습니다.
오바마 당선자는 또 게리 겐슬러 전 재무차관을 상품선물 거래위원회 위원장에, 빌 클린턴 전 대통령의 경제자문을 맡았던 대니얼 타룰로 조지타운대학교 교수를 연방준비제도 이사회 이사에 각각 내정했습니다.
한편, 오는 1월 20일 있을 취임식에서 복음주의교회 릭 워렌 목사가 기도를 맡을 예정인 가운데, 동성애 권리 옹호자들은 오바마 당선자에게 이번 결정을 재고할 것을 촉구하고 나섰습니다.
휴먼라이츠 켐페인이라는 단체는 오바마 당선자에게 서한을 보내 워렌 목사가, 지난 달 캘리포니아에서 통과된 동성결혼 금지 주민발의안을 지지해 왔다며 이 같이 촉구했습니다.

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama has selected three long-time financial regulators he says will help put in place new rules to protect the economy.
Mr. Obama (today/Thursday)nominated Mary Schapiro to head the Securities and Exchange Commission, which regulates the financial markets. He said she will bring a new spirit of accountability to the SEC.
The agency has been criticized for what many say was lax oversight of Wall Street financial institutions before the collapse of major investment banks. The SEC is also accused of failing to heed warnings about an allegedly fraudulent investment fund run by money manager Bernard Madoff.
The president-elect named former Treasury official Gary Gensler to head the agency that oversees the markets for commodities (the Commodity Futures Trading Commission).Mr. Obama also picked Dan Tarullo - a law professor and advisor to former President Bill Clinton - to serve on the board of the U.S. central bank(the Federal Reserve).
