영국의 고든 브라운 총리는 파키스탄과의 테러 퇴치 협력을 강화하고 지난 달 인도 뭄바이에서 발생한 테러 공격에 대한 수사도 도울 것이라고 다짐했습니다.
브라운 총리는 14일 파키스탄의 이슬라마바드에서 가진 기자회견에서 영국은 그 어느 때보다도 가장 광범위한 테러 퇴치 프로그램을 위해 파키스탄 정부와 공동 노력할 것이라고 말했습니다.
브라운 총리는 새로운 폭탄 탐지 기술과 파키스탄의 민주 제도를 강화하기 위한 9백만 달러 상당을 포함해 파키스탄이 테러에 맞서 싸울 수 있도록 돕기 위해 더 많은 자원을 지원할 것이라고 다짐했습니다.
브라운 총리는 파키스탄의 아시프 알리 자르다리 대통령과 회담한 뒤에 이같이 다짐했습니다. 영국 관계관은 브라운 총리가 이보다 앞서 14일 인도 뉴델리를 방문해 만모한 싱 인도 총리와의 회담에서도 이와 유사한 지원 방안에 관해 논의했다고 전했습니다.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has pledged to increase counter-terrorism cooperation with Pakistan and help in the investigation into last month's terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
Mr. Brown told a news conference in Islamabad today (Sunday) that Britain will work with the Pakistani government on the "most comprehensive" anti-terror program that Britain has ever signed. He pledged more resources to help Pakistan fight terror, including new bomb-scanning technology, and about nine million dollars to strengthen Pakistani democratic institutions.
Mr. Brown made the offer following talks with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari. The British official said he discussed similar assistance with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during a visit to New Delhi earlier Sunday.
Tensions between Pakistan and India have risen since the Mumbai attacks. But Mr. Singh today said he wants "normalized" relations with Pakistan, if Pakistan will stop allowing its territory to be used for terrorist activities against India.
