Afghan officials say a suicide bomber today (Thursday) exploded inside a
government ministry building in the capital, killing five people and wounding
at least 21 others.
Kabul's deputy police chief Ali Shah Ahmadzai said the attack occurred in the
Ministry of Information and Culture. The bomb blast caused one of the
ministry's walls to collapse.
A Taliban representative said three of its members carried out the attack. The
representative added that two of the attackers escaped.
On Wednesday, U.S. military officials said they support the Afghan government's
efforts to reconcile with Taliban insurgents. But they added the United States
would not hold talks with Taliban leader, Mullah Omar.
Omar sheltered Bin Laden in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan until the U.S.-led
invasion after the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks.
