달라이 라마 측 특사와 중국 정부는 지난2002년부터 7차례의 직접 협상을 벌였지만, 실질적인 성과가 없었습니다. 이번 8번째 협의는 중국이 지난 8월 베이징 올림픽을 치룬 이후 처음 이뤄지는 것입니다.

Envoys of Tibetan spiritual leader,
the Dalai Lama, are traveling to Beijing for a new round of closed-door talks
on the future of Tibet.
China's official media says the Dalai Lama requested the talks. Tibetan
officials say the two envoys will be in Beijing for about a week.
A spokesman for the Dalai Lama (Tenzin Takhla) said Thursday that he
hopes Chinese officials will use the new round of talks to "respond
positively."
A few days ago, the Dalai Lama said he was losing faith in the dialogue process
with China. He said Saturday he has "given up" because there has been
no positive response from China in the talks held so far.
The Dalai Lama's emissaries and the Communist government in Beijing have held
seven rounds of direct talks since 2002, but no substantial progress has been
achieved. This is their eighth meeting and first since Beijing hosted the
Olympics in August.
