원자바오 중국 총리는 25일, 현재 태국과 홍콩에서 오염된 중국식품들이 식료품점에서 수거되고 있지만 중국의 식품은 곧 세계인들의 신뢰를 얻을 것이라고 말했습니다.
원 총리는 식품안전에 대한 정부의 감독을 강화한 새 법으로 중국산 제품들은 수입국들의 기준을 맞출 수 있을 것이라고 말했습니다.
화학물로 오염된 치약, 애완동물 사료 등 여러 제품에 대한 국제사회의 우려가 생기면서 지난해부터 중국의 식품 위생 기록에 대한 관심도 높아졌습니다.
최근 중국산과 동아시아산 식품에서 화학물질들이 잇달아 발견되고 있습니다.
홍콩의 식품안전청은 25일 중국산 계란과 필리핀산 과자에서 독성 물질인 멜라닌 성분이 검출됐다고 밝혔습니다.
또 태국의 보건당국은 멜라닌이 검출된 중국산 과자와 두 종류와 말레이지아산 과자 한 종류를 회수했습니다.
원 총리는 중국 정부가 최근 멜리민 우유 파동에 일부 책임이 있음을 시인하며, 식품 위생 수준을 개선하기 위한 법안을 약속했습니다.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao promised today (Saturday)that his country's food exports would win the trust of people around the world
even as more tainted products were pulled from store shelves in Hong Kong and
Thailand.
Mr. Wen said new legislation requiring greater government responsibility would
make Chinese products meet the standards of importing countries.
Food safety has drawn renewed attention since Chinese-produced milk tainted
with the toxic chemical melamine killed four babies in China and sickened tens
of thousands more.
The chemical has since turned up in Chinese exports and food products
manufactured in east Asia.
Hong Kong's Center for Food Safety said today (Saturday) it had found the
toxic chemical melamine in eggs imported from China and cookies baked in the
Philippines.
Authorities in Thailand recalled two brands of snacks made in China and one
made in Malaysia after finding they contained melamine.
Mr. Wen said the Chinese government was in part to blame for the recent tainted
milk crisis and promised legislation to improve food safety.
