Republican presidential candidate John McCain and Democratic candidate Barack Obama are shifting their attention to the western United States in an effort to take states critical to winning the presidential election in ten days (November 4th).An average of the latest polls (by Real Clear Politics-dot-com)show that Senator Obama has widened his national lead over Senator McCain to nearly eight percentage points.
Senator Obama will visit Nevada and New Mexico where polls show he is ahead in both states. In the last two presidential elections, Nevada and New Mexico have shifted their support between Democrats and Republicans in very tight races. The Illinois senator is returning to the campaign trail after taking a break to visit his gravely ill grandmother (Madelyn Dunham) in Hawaii.
Senator McCain will campaign in New Mexico as well today (Saturday). He will then travel to the Texas, where polls show the Arizona senator has a solid lead over Senator Obama.
