국제통화기금, IMF의 도미니크 스트라우스 칸 총재는 9일 세계가 경제불황 직전의 상황에 있지만 내년 2009년 하반기에는 회복세에 들어갈 것으로 본다고 말했습니다.
칸 총재는 세계적 불황을 피하기 위해 여러나라가 반드시 함께 힘을 합해야 한다며 현 위기에 대한 국내적 해결방안을 없다고 경고했습니다.
칸 총재는 이번 주에 전세계적으로 하향 조정된 금리가 바로 경제 회복을 위한 국제적 공조의 좋은 사례라고 지적했습니다.
칸 총재는 IMF는 경제 문제가 발생하는 국가들에 대해 대출을 용이하게 하기 위한 긴급활동계획을 8일 가동하기 시작했다고 덧붙였습니다. 칸 총재는 IMF 회원국들과 쥐세븐 선진공업국 고위관리들이 경제현안들을 논의하기 위해 모인 이곳 워싱턴에서 그같이 말했습니다.

Monetary Fund says the world is on the brink of a global recession but predicts
the economy will begin to recover by late 2009.
Dominique Strauss-Khan says nations must work together to avert a global recession
and warns there is "no domestic solution" to the crisis. He says this
week's coordinated interest rate cuts around the world are a good example of
the international cooperation needed to restore faltering economies.
Strauss-Khan says the IMF also activated an emergency program Wednesday that
allows the fund to provide loans more easily and quickly to emerging countries
in economic trouble.
The IMF chief made the remarks in Washington D.C. today (Thursday), as
top officials from IMF nations and the G-7 industrialized countries are
gathering for meetings on economic issues. U.S. President George Bush is set to
meet with G-7 finance ministers at the White House on Saturday.
