서부 소도시 카우하요키의 한 직업 학교에서 23일 총기 난사 사건이 발생해
범인을 포함해 11명이 숨지고 여러 명이 부상했습니다.
경찰당국은 범인은 이 학교에 다니는 20살, 마티 주하리 사리 학생이라고 밝혔습니다. 범인은 학교 내에서 총기를 난사한데 이어 스스로에게 총을 쏘고 몇 시간 뒤 숨졌다고 경찰이 밝혔습니다.
핀란드 당국은 범인이 인터넷 영상사이트 '유튜브'에 올린 사격 연습 동영상을 본 뒤 사건 발생 전날 범인을 조사했다고 밝혔습니다. 그러나 그를 억류할 법적 근거가 없었다고 말했습니다.
사고가 발생한 직업학교는 요리와 관광 전문학교로 수도 헬싱키에서 북서쪽으로 약 3백 킬로미터 떨어진 카우하요키에 위치해 있습니다.
이번 사건은 핀란드 남부의 한 학교에서 지난해 11월 교내 총기발사 사건으로 8명이 사망한지 1년이 채 안된 시점에 발생했습니다.

Eleven people were killed and several others wounded in Finland when a
gunman opened fire today(Tuesday) at a vocational school northwest of
the capital, Helsinki.
Police say the assailant, a 20-year-old student at the school, is among the
dead. Police identified him as Matti Juhari Saari. They say he died several
hours after shooting himself following the killing spree.
The shooting took place in the western town of Kauhajoki, about 300 kilometers
from Helsinki. The school specializes in culinary arts and tourism studies.
Authorities say they spoke to the gunman on Monday after seeing a video he had
posted on(the Internet Web site) YouTube showing himself dressed in
dark clothing, firing at a shooting range with a handgun.
Tuesday's shooting comes nearly a year after a male student named Pekka-Eric
Auvinen killed eight people at a school in southern Finland before taking his
own life.
