오바마 의원측은 신규 기부자도 50만명에 달한다고 밝혀 이 부문 기록도 갈아치웠습니다.
공화당 대통령 후보인 존 매케인 후보의 8월 선거자금 모금액은 4천7백만달러에 그친 것으로 나타났지만, 이는 매케인 의원의 최고 모금액으로 기록됐습니다.
매케인 의원은 오바마 의원과 달리 미연방선관위로부터 선거공영자금을 받기로 결정한 만큼 9월부터는 민간자금 모금에 나설 수 없습니다.

U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama raised a record
66-million-dollars last month in campaign funds.
The Illinois senator's campaign announced Sunday that he had reached the new
record by enrolling 500-thousand new donors.
On the Republican side, candidate John McCain raised 47 million dollars, his
own personal best.
August was the last month McCain could raise private funds. The Arizona senator
accepted a public financing program for the November general election.
Obama is the first major presidential candidate to reject the millions of
dollars in public funds available for the general election since the system was
put in place in the 1970s. This allows Obama to raise an unlimited amount in
private donations.
