German Chancellor Angela Merkel topped Forbes Magazine's list of the
world's most powerful women Wednesday for the third year in a row.
Sheila Bair, who chairs the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation that
insures bank deposits, debuted in the number two spot due to her increased
prominence amid a stumbling American economy.
At number three, Indra Nooyi, chief executive of soft drink giant Pepsico, was
one of 54 business leaders on the list.
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, one of 23 politicians on
the list, was number 13.
Other notable women on the list include French Economy Minister Christine
Lagarde in 14th place; Sonia Gandhi, head of the Indian National Congress Party
in 21st place and Queen Rania of Jordan in 96th place.
