베이징 올림픽 개막을 몇시간 앞두고 네팔과 인도에서는 중국의 티베트 지배에 항의하는 대규모 시위가 벌여졌습니다.
네팔 경찰은 네팔의 수도 카트만두의 중국 대사관 앞에서 농성을 벌인 1천명 이상의 시위 참가자들을 연행했습니다. 오늘 네팔 주재 중국 대사관 앞에서는 네팔 경찰의 저지에도 불구하고 하루종일 수많은 티베트인들이 중국의 티베트 지배에 항의하는 시위를 이어 나갔습니다.
네팔 경찰 당국은 경찰에 연행된 시위 참가자들이 오늘중 석방될 것이라고 밝혔습니다.
티베트인들의 시위는 인도의 수도 뉴델리에서도 이어져 1천명 이상의 시위대가 폭우 속에서도 이틀째 중국에 대한 항의 시위를 벌였습니다.

Tibetan exiles in Nepal and neighboring India held mass anti-China protests today (Friday), hours before the Olympic Games were set to open in Beijing.
In Nepal, police detained more than a thousand people demonstrating outside the
Chinese embassy in the capital, Kathmandu.Groups of protesters have
been arriving at the embassy throughout the day, in defiance of a ban by the
Nepalese government.
A senior police official (Ramesh Thapa)says most of those arrested will
be released today.
Meanwhile, in India's capital, New Delhi, more than a thousand Tibetan exiles
braved heavy rains to protest for a second day. Security was increased in the
capital as demonstrators, including Buddhist monks, shouted "Free
Tibet" and "Stop the Olympics."
Tibetan exiles have been holding regular demonstrations against the Chinese
government since March, when deadly clashes broke out between protesters and
Chinese authorities in the Tibetan capital, Lhasa.
