일본의 후쿠다 야스오 총리가 올해 종전기념일에는 논란이 되고 있는 야스쿠니 신사에 참배하지 않을 것임을 시사했습니다.
후쿠다 총리는 일본의 1급 전범들이 합사된 도쿄의 야스쿠니 신사를 오는 15일 방문할 것이냐는 기자들의 질문에, 자신의 과거행적을 보라고 대답했습니다.
후쿠다 총리는 지난 해 9월 취임한 후 야스쿠니 신사 참배를 자제할 것이라고 약속한 바 있습니다.
고이즈미 준이치로 전 총리는 재직 당시 5년 간 매년 야스쿠니 신사를 방문해 한국과 중국의 강한 반발을 불러일으켰습니다. 후쿠다 내각의 일부 인사들을 비롯한 일본 국회의원들은 그러나 야스쿠니 신사 참배를 계속할 것이라고 밝히고 있습니다.

Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda indicated he will not visit a
controversial war shrine when Japan marks the anniversary of its World War Two
surrender later this month.
When asked today (Tuesday)whether he would visit the Yasukuni Shrine in
Tokyo on August 15th, Mr. Fukuda told reporters, "Look at my past actions."
The Japanese leader pledged after taking office last September that he would
refrain from visiting the shrine, which honors Japan's war dead, including some
convicted war criminals.
Former prime minister Junichiro Koizumi went to the shrine every year during
his five-years in office, enraging China and South Korea.
Japanese lawmakers, including some members of Mr. Fukuda's cabinet, say they
will continue to visit the shrine.
