이스라엘 총리의 임박한 사임에도 불구하고 팔레스타인과의 중동평화협상은 올해 계속 진행될 것이라고 치피 리브니 이스라엘 외무장관이 밝혔습니다.
리브니 장관은 31일 뉴욕의 유엔본부에서 기자들에게, 에후드 올메르트 총리의 사임 발표는 내정이라며 중동평화협상에서 자신의 협상자 역할에 아무런 영향을 미치지 않는다고 말했습니다.
리브니 장관은 이날 반기문 유엔 사무총장과 만나 이스라엘과 팔레스타인간의 평화협상 등에 관해 논의한 뒤 이같이 말했습니다.
비리 혐의로 수사를 받아온 올메르트 총리는 지난 달 30일 사임 의사를 밝혔습니다.

Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni says she will continue to push for a peace agreement with the Palestinians this year despite the pending resignation of Israel's prime minister.
In remarks to reporters at the United Nations today (Thursday), Livni called Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's announced resignation an "internal" matter. She said it does not affect her role as a negotiator on an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal.
Livni spoke following talks with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the peace process and other issues. She met Wednesday in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Palestinian chief negotiator Ahmed Qureia.
Livni said she discussed in her meeting Wednesday the mutual interest of Israel and what she called "pragmatic" Palestinian leaders to live in peace.
In Tunisia today, visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he will continue to work with Mr. Olmert and any Israeli successor on a peace deal.
