양국 외무장관은 부시 미국대통령의 베이징 올림픽 개막식 참석에 관해 집중 논의한 것으로 알려졌습니다.
미국 국무부는 미중 외무장관 회담에서 두 나라간의 현안들과 국제문제도 함께 다뤄질 것이라고 밝혔었습니다.
인권단체들은 중국의 인권 상황을 이유로 부시 미국 대통령에게 오는 8월8일 베이징 올림픽 개막식에 참석하지 말 것을 요구해왔습니다.
한편 라이스 장관은 8월24일 올림픽 폐막식에 미국 대표단을 이끌고 참석할 예정입니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has met with her Chinese counterpart
in Washington ahead of next week's opening of the Beijing Olympics.

Jiechi were expected to focus on U.S. President George Bush's trip to the
Olympic opening ceremony. The U.S. State Department said the talks would also
touch on a range of bilateral and international issues.
Human rights activists have called on Mr. Bush to stay away from the August
eighth opening ceremony because of China's human rights record. Rice will lead a
U.S. delegation to the closing ceremony on August 24th.
During her visit to Asia last week, Rice warned China not to use legitimate
security concerns as an excuse to crack down on dissidents.
Amnesty International Monday said China is using the Olympics as a pretext to
continue -- and in some respects intensify -- human rights violations.
