중국은 올림픽 대회 개막을 불과 3주 앞두고, 베이징에 새로운 지하철 3개 노선을 예정보다 한달여 늦은 19일 개통했습니다.
새 지하철 노선들은 올림픽 대회 폐막 이후까지 베이징의 차량운행 대수를 절반으로 줄이는 계획이 시행되기 하루 전에 개통됐습니다.
베이징에서는 20일 부터 올림픽 대회를 앞두고 대기오염을 줄이기 위해 차량 홀.짝제가 실시됩니다. 이에 따라 홀수날에는 홀수 번호 차량만 운행이 가능합니다.
이번
차량규제로 베이징에서는 하루 3백만 명 이상이 대중교통을 이용할 것으로
예상됩니다.

Beijing opened three new
rail lines today (Saturday), nearly a month behind schedule and only
three weeks before the Olympic Games open in the Chinese capital.
The new lines opened one day ahead of restrictions aimed at taking half the
city's cars off city streets until after the Olympics. Starting Sunday, Beijing
limits car usage to alternate days based on odd and even numbered license
plates to reduce air pollution leading up to the Games.
The restrictions are expected to make more than three million people a day
depend on public transportation.
The new routes, built at a cost of more than three billion dollars, will serve
Beijing's international airport and Olympic venues.
