미국이 동유럽에 미사일 방어체계를 구축할 경우 유럽 지역 안보질서가 붕괴될 수 있다고, 드미트리 메드베데프 러시아 대통령이 말했습니다.
메드베데프 대통령은 15일 모스크바에서 러시아 외교관들과 만나, 폴란드와 체코공화국에 미사일 방어체계를 구축하려는 계획은 상황을 악화시키고 러시아의 대응을 강요할 것이라고 말했습니다.
미국 정부는 이란의 잠재적인 공격 위협에서 자국과 유럽 동맹국들을 보호하기 위해 미사일 방어체계가 필요하다는 입장입니다.
미국과 체코는 지난주 체코에 미사일 유도 레이다를 설치하는 협정에 서명했습니다. 합의된 내용은 앞으로 양국 의회의 승인을 받아야 합니다. 미국은 또 폴란드에 10기의 요격미사일을 설치하기 위해 폴란드 정부와 계속 협상 중입니다.
한편 메드베데프 대통령은 이 날 연설에서 미국과 러시아는 국제 안보를 유지하기 위한 기본적인 책임을 안고 있다고 말했습니다.

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev says existing security arrangements in Europe could collapse if the United States undermines their foundations by deploying a missile defense system in eastern Europe.
Mr. Medvedev told Russian diplomats today (Tuesday) in Moscow the proposed missile deployment in Poland and the Czech Republic will only aggravate the situation and force Russia to respond.
Washington wants the system to protect the United States and its European allies from potential attacks from Iran.
Washington and Prague signed a treaty last week authorizing the deployment of missile guidance radar on Czech soil. The deal must still be approved by the country's evenly-divided parliament. U.S. envoys are continuing negotiations with Poland for deployment of 10 missile interceptors.
In his wide-ranging address, the Russian leader said the United States and Russia bear primary responsibility for maintaining global stability.
