싱 총리는 선진 8개국 정상회담에 참석하기 전 국제 원자력기구의 지지를 확보하고, 이어 미국의회의 비준을 받기전, 그 핵협정을 인도의회에 제출할 계획입니다.
그러나 미국과의 핵 협정에 반대하는 인도 공산당 의원들은 그 핵 협정안이 의회에서 통과되면 정부와의 연정을 지속할 수 없을 것이라고 위협하고 있습니다.

India's prime minister on Wednesday tried to gain support for a controversial nuclear deal with Washington that would give New Delhi access to nuclear fuel and technology for the first time in decades.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed hope he will be able to take a positive message to U.S. President George Bush when the two meet at the G-8 summit in Japan next week.
Mr. Singh wants to finalize the agreement with the International Atomic Energy before he goes to Japan. After that, he plans to present it to parliament, before the deal goes to the U.S. Congress for final approval.
But communist lawmakers in India oppose the controversial deal and have threatened to withdraw their support from the ruling coalition if it is passed. They are concerned about getting too close to Washington, saying the agreement could compromise India's national security.
