미국 대통령 영부인 로라 부시 여사는 아프가니스탄 방문을 마친 뒤 슬로베니아에서 남편인 부시 대통령과 합류할 예정입니다.
부시 여사는 지난 주말, 아프가니스탄을 사전 예고없이 전격 방문해 하미드 카르자이 대통령과 만났습니다. 부시 여사는 카르자이 대통령과 만난 뒤, 국제사회가 현재와 같은 중대한 시점에 아프가니스탄을 저버려서는 안 된다고 강조했습니다.
부시여사는 그밖에 아프가니스탄의 수도 카불에 있는 아메리칸 대학교를 위한 4천만 달러의 5개년 지원과 국립 문맹퇴치소를 위한 4천만 달러 지원 등 아프가니스탄에 대한 미국의 원조계획도 발표했습니다.

U.S. first lady Laura Bush is to visit Slovenia a day after an unannounced visit to war-torn Afghanistan.
Mrs. Bush will join her husband, U.S. President George Bush, who will be taking part in a U.S. - European Union summit on Tuesday.
During her one-day visit to Afghanistan, the first lady met with President Hamid Karzai and called on the international community to support the country at a donors conference this week in Paris.
After their meeting in Kabul Sunday, Mrs. Bush said the international community cannot drop Afghanistan at what she called "this very crucial time."
She also announced two U.S. aid initiatives -- a 40 million-dollar grant over five years for the American University in Kabul and another 40 million-dollar package for the National Literacy Center.
