National Guard troops are searching for flood victims across the state, where overflowing rivers have made roads and highways impassible.
Patients have been evacuated from a hospital in the southwestern Indiana town of Columbus. Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels has declared more than half the state a disaster area.
Tornadoes also have been whipping across the Midwest in recent days, toppling trees and damaging homes.
