비평가들은 제재가 아니라 부패와 논란이 많은 토지 개혁사업이 짐바브웨의 만성적인 식량 부족과 기록적인 물가 상승을 불러일으켰다고 말하고 있습니다.
짐바브웨 정부에 대한 미국과 유럽 측의 제재는 인권을 위반한 특정 개인들을 대상으로 하고 있습니다. 짐바브웨는 평범한 사람들에게 영향을 미치는 광범위한 제재를 받지 않고 있습니다.
더글라스 알렉산더 영국 국제개발장관은 이 날 로마에서 무가베 대통령은 짐바브웨를 피폐화시키고 있다고 말했습니다.

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has accused Britain of rallying Western countries to overthrow his government.
Mr. Mugabe told the global food summit in Rome today (Tuesday) that Britain has mobilized its "friends and allies" in Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand to impose what he called "illegal economic sanctions" on Zimbabwe.
He said the sanctions aim to cripple Zimbabwe's economy and force an illegal regime change.
Mr. Mugabe's critics say corruption and a controversial land reform program, not sanctions, are the cause of the country's chronic food shortages and record-setting inflation.
U.S. and European sanctions against Zimbabwe's government are targeted at specific individuals accused of human rights violations. The country is not subject to broad sanctions affecting ordinary people.
Britain's International Development minister (Douglas Alexander) said in Rome today that Mr. Mugabe has impoverished his own nation.
