중국 당국은 지진 피해 사망자 수가 어제 공식 집계된 것보다 1만 명 정도 늘어난 5만 1천 명 이상이며, 약 3만 명이 여전히 실종된 상태라고 오늘 밝혔습니다.
중국 당국은 또 지진 생존자 5백만 명 이상이 집을 잃었다면서 이들을 수용하기 위한 3백만 개 이상의 천막을 지원해달라고 국제사회에 호소했습니다.
이번 지진의 직격탄을 맞은 중국 남부 쓰촨성에서의 생존자 구조작업과 이재민 구호 활동은 비와 여진 등으로 인해 더디게 진행되고 있습니다.

China says the confirmed number of dead and missing from last week's powerful earthquake has jumped to more than 80-thousand.
Chinese officials announced today (Thursday) that the death toll now exceeds 51-thousand and that nearly 30-thousand others are still missing.
The number of confirmed dead is an increase of nearly 10-thousand from the day before. Officials originally thought the number would approach 50-thousand.
Last week's seven-point-nine magnitude quake has left more than five million people homeless and China has appealed to the international community for more than three million tents for survivors.
Rescue and relief efforts in Sichuan province, the region hardest hit by the quake, have been hampered by rain and numerous aftershocks.
One successful rescue was reported by China's state media on Wednesday, but there were no similar reports today.
