미국 재무부는 중국을 환율 조작국으로 지정하지는 않았으나, 중국이 경제 개혁 조치를 취해야 한다고 지적했습니다.
재무부는 어제 의회에 제출한 반기 환율보고서에서 최근 중국 위안화의 가치가 달러화에 비해 절상되기는 했으나 아직도 상당히 평가절하돼 있는 상태라고 지적했습니다.
보고서는 중국에 대해 정부가 아닌 시장에 의해 환율이 결정되도록 금융개혁을 단행할 것과 수출에 의존하기 보다는 국내 소비 진작에 주력할 것을 촉구했습니다.*

The U.S. Treasury has declined to designate China a "currency manipulator," but says Beijing must take steps to rebalance its economy.
In a report (on foreign exchange rates) delivered to Congress Thursday, the department notes that China's yuan has made recent gains against the dollar, but is still "substantially undervalued."
The report calls on China to institute financial reforms to eventually allow the market, rather than the government, determine exchange rates.
The report also urges China to increase domestic consumption and rely less on exports.
U.S. critics say China maintains an artificially low exchange rate, making Chinese goods much cheaper than U.S.-made products. Many say China's undervalued currency is a key reason for the huge trade deficit between China and the United States.
