로버트 게이츠 미 국방장관은 21일 미국의 군사 전력은 이라크와 아프가니스탄의 전투장에서 필요로 되는 자원을 신속히 제공하지 못하고 있다고 말했습니다.
게이츠 장관은 알라바마주 맥스웰 공군 기지에서 가진 연설에서 미국 공군은 이라크와 아프가니스탄에 조종사의 목숨을 위태롭게 하지 않으면서 무장분자들을 정찰, 수색하고 때로는 살해할수 있는 무인 감시기와 정찰기를 더 많이 보내야 한다고 밝혔습니다.
게이츠 장관은 원격 비행조정물체로 알려진 항공기를 이라크와 아프가니스탄에 보내는 것은 고통스럽고 어려운 문제였다고 밝혔습니다.
게이츠 장관은 미군이 최근 몇달 간 전투능력을 배가했지만 여전히 충분하지 않다고 밝혔습니다.

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Monday the country's miltary services are not moving fast enough to provide what he termed "resources needed now on the battlefield" in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mr. Gates, in a speech at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, said the U.S. Air Force needs to send to Iraq and Afghanistan more unmanned surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft, which can watch, hunt and sometimes kill insurgents without risking the life of a pilot.
Mr. Gates said and that it has been like "pulling teeth" (painful and difficult) to get such aircraft, known as "drones", sent to the region.
He said that while the military has doubled this capability in recent months, it is still not enough.
