짐바브웨에서 로버트 무가베 대통령이 이끄는 집권당이 국회 다수당 지위를 잃게 된 것으로 나타났습니다.
2일 공개된 공식 결과에서 야당인 민주변화운동은 지난 달 29일 실시된 국회의원 총선거에서 210석 가운데 105석을 차지했고, 1석은 무소속에 돌아간 것으로 나타났습니다.
이는 집권당인 짐바브웨 아프리카 민족민주연맹 애국전선, 자누 PF 당이 국회 다수당이 되기 위해 필요한 106석을 얻을 수 없음을 의미하는 것입니다. 지금까지 자누 PF 당은 90여 석을 차지한 것으로 집계되고 있습니다.
이보다 앞서, 야당인 민주변화운동의 지도자 겸 대선후보인 모간 창기라이 대표는 수도 하라레에서 열린 기자회견에서 대통령선거와 국회의원 총선거에서 야당이 모두 승리했다고 선언했습니다.
민주변화운동의 덴다이 비티 사무총장은 투표소 밖에 게재된 결과들을 바탕으로 창기라이 후보가 50.3%의 득표율을 기록해 결선투표가 필요없게 됐다고 말했습니다.
집권당의 일원인 짐바브웨 공보부의 브라이트 마통가 차관은 영국 BBC 방송과의 회견에서, 그같은 야당의 승리 주장은 야당의 희망사항에 불과하다고 일축했습니다.
짐바브웨 국영 언론은 대통령 선거의 비공식 개표결과 창기라이 후보나 무가베 대통령 모두 결선 투표를 피하기에 충분한 과반수 이상의 득표를 기록하지 못했음이 시사되고 있다고 보도했습니다.

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe's party has lost control of the nation's parliament.
Official results released today show the opposition Movement for Democratic Change has taken 105 of the 210 parliamentary seats, and one seat has gone to an independent. This means the ruling ZANU-PF party cannot attain the 106 seats needed for a majority.
So far, Mr. Mugabe's party is trailing with slightly more than 90 seats.
Earlier today at a news conference in Harare, Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai's MDC party claimed victory in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
MDC Secretary-General Tendai Biti says, based on results posted outside polling stations, Mr. Tsvangirai won 50-point-three percent of the vote, making a run-off unnecessary.
Zimbabwe's Deputy Information Minister Bright Matonga -- a member of the ruling party -- told the BBC the claim of victory is "wishful thinking" on the MDC's part.
Zimbabwe's state-run media say unofficial results of Saturday's presidential election indicate neither Mr. Tsvangirai nor President Robert Mugabe will garner more than half of the vote -- forcing a run-off.
