중국 베이징올림픽 성화가 오늘 그리스의 고대 올림픽 신전에서 채화 됐습니다.
오늘 채화식은 삼엄한 경비 속에서 치러졌으나, 티베트 지지자 두 명이 경비망를 뚫고 식장에 뛰어들면서, 류치 중국 올림픽 조직위원장의 연설이 잠시 중단됐습니다. 채화식장에 들어간 티베트 지지자들은 베이징 올림픽 참가 거부를 요구하는 깃발을 흔들며 시위를 벌였습니다.
올림픽 성화는 베이징으로 옮겨져 이달 31일부터 전세계를 순회하며, 5월초에는 에베레스트 산 정상으로 봉송될 예정입니다. 중국 당국은 올림픽 성화가 티베트를 거쳐 에베레스트 산으로 봉송되는 기간 동안 치안유지를 강화하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
The torch for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games was lit today (Monday) at a ceremony in Ancient Olympia, Greece using the rays of the sun.
Security was tight, but two pro-Tibet protesters managed to break through and disrupt the speech of China Olympic organizing committee chief, Liu Qi. The protesters unfurled a flag demanding a boycott of the Beijing Games.
As the Olympics near, activist groups have have stepped up their protests of China's human rights record and its handling of Tibet. Pro-Tibet activists have called for the cancelation of the Tibet leg of the Beijing Olympics' torch relay.
After today's ceremony in Greece, the torch will travel to Beijing, and on March 31st, it will set off on its journey around the world.
