최근 중국의 서부 신장 위구르 자치구에서 비행기 테러가 시도됐다 진압된 사실이 9일 뒤늦게 알려졌습니다.
신장 자치주의 누루 바크리 주지사는 베이징에서 지난 7일 중국 남방항공 소속 여객기를 납치하려는 사건이 발생했다고 밝혔습니다.
누르 바크리 주지시에 따르면 이날 오전 10시35분에 우루무치를 출발한 비행기에서 테러 기도가 발생했습니다. 범인들은 이 비행기를 폭파하거나 납치하려했던 것으로 전해졌습니다. 이 사건으로 인해 비행기는 두시간 뒤인 12시 40분께 인근 간쑤성의 란저우시에 불시착했습니다.
누르 주지사는 "승무원들이 테러리스트들은 진압했으며 모든 승객과 승무원들은 무사했다"며 "이 비행기는 8일 목적지인 베이징에 도착했다"고 말했습니다.
현재 중국의 공안당국은 현재 테러범들의 신원과 사건 배경 등을 조사하고 있습니다.
한편 중국에서 지난 1월 경찰에 의해 생포되거나 살해된 무장분자 용의자들은 올해 베이징 올림픽을 겨냥한 테러 공격을 음모 중에 있었다고 중국의 고위 관리가 밝혔습니다.
중국 서부 신장위구르의 왕러취안 자치구 공산당 서기는 9일 기자들에게 지난 1월 27일 기습작전에서 압수한 자료와 물건들은 이들 조직이 베이징 올림픽을 방해하기 위한 공작을 꾸미고 있었음을 보여주었다고 말했습니다.
이 기습 작전은 신장 지역 수도인 우루무치에서 전개됐습니다. 러위안 당서기는 이 작전에서 무장분자 2명은 살해되고 15명이 생포됐다고 덧붙였습니다.

Chinese officials say the crew of a China Southern flight prevented an attempt last week to crash a jetliner.
Nur Bekri, governor of the western Xinjian region, told reporters today (Sunday) that there was an attempt to cause an air disaster. He did not give details or say who might have been responsible.
He said the plane safely made an emergency landing Friday morning in the city of Lanzhou, a few hours after leaving the far western city of Urumuqi.
Meanwhile, a top Chinese official says suspected militants captured and killed by police in January were planning a terrorist attack on this year's Beijing Olympics.
Wang Lequan, the top Communist Party official in the western region of Xinjiang, told reporters today (Sunday) that materials seized in a January 27th raid showed the gang had plotted to sabotage the Olympics.
The raid took place in the Xinjiang regional capital, Urumqi. Lequan says two militants were killed and 15 others were arrested during the operation.
