이스라엘은 지난 27일 팔레스타인 지역에서 날아온 로켓 공격으로 이스라엘인 1명이 사망한 후 가자지구를 공격했습니다.
반기문 유엔 사무총장은 1일, 이스라엘의 자위권을 인정한다고 말하면서도 이스라엘의 행동은 “부적절하고 지나친 무력사용’이라며 비판했습니다.
반 사무총장은 또 이스라엘에 대한 팔레스타인의 로켓 공격을 비난하고, 그같은 테러 행위를 즉각 중단할 것을 촉구했습니다.
한편 팔레스타인의 마흐무드 압바스 자치정부 수반은 가자지구내 하마스 무장분자들에 대한 이스라엘군 공격에 항의해 이스라엘과의 평화 협상을 중단했습니다.
백악관 대변인은 2일 양측간 폭력 사태를 종식하고 평화 협상을 재개할 것을 촉구했습니다.

South Korean officials say newly-installed President Lee Myung-bak has named a career diplomat to be unification minister - the official in charge of handling North Korea.
Officials said today (Sunday) that Kim Ha-joong, currently South Korea's Ambassador to Beijing, received the nod after the previous nominee, Nam Joo-hong, pulled out because of accusations of past unethical conduct.
The unification ministry is responsible for improving ties with the North, including aid and humanitarian projects for the impoverished neighbor.
On Friday, the National Assembly approved the nomination of Han Seung-soo to be the South Korea's new prime minister.
The vote was a victory for President Lee, after three of his cabinet nominees were forced to step aside because of allegations of unethical conduct.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has suspended Mideast peace talks to protest Israel's military offensive against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
A White House spokesman (Gordon Johndroe) called today for an end to the violence and a return to talks.
