로돌페 아다다 평화유지군 사령관과 뎅 알로 수단 외무장관은 9일 수도 카르툼에서 열린 서명식에 참석했습니다. 알로 장관은 수단 정부가 평화유지군과 전폭적으로 협조할 것이라고 기자들에게 밝혔습니다.
UNAMID라고 명명된 합동 평화유지군은 2만 6천 명의 군인과 경찰로 구성될 예정입니다. 합동 평화유지군은 다르푸르 지역에서 활동하는 7천명의 아프리카 연합 평화유지군을 대체하게 됩니다.
한편, 서명식이 거행되기 전날 수단 정부군이 서부 다르푸르주의 세 마을을 공격해 수많은 인명피해가 났다고 목격자들과 반군이 밝혔습니다.
수단 국영 언론은 수단군 대변인의 말을 인용해 ‘아부 수로지, 시르바, 술레아 지역에서 군사작전이 있었다’고 밝혔습니다. 대변인은 많은 사람들이 부상을 입거나 사망했다고 말했지만 구체적인 수치는 밝히지 않았습니다.
Representatives of Sudan and the joint United Nations-African Union mission in Darfur have signed an agreement that outlines the mission's operations.
The head of the peacekeeping force, Rodolphe Adada, and Sudan's foreign minister, Deng Alor, participated in the signing ceremony today (Saturday) in Khartoum. Alor told reporters that Sudan's government will fully cooperate with the peacekeepers.
Once it is fully operational, the mission, known as UNAMID, will have 26-thousand troops and police. It is replacing an A.U. force of seven thousand peacekeepers.
The signing comes one day after witnesses and rebels said Sudanese government forces attacked three towns in the state of West Darfur, causing heavy civilian casualties.
Sudan's state news agency (SUNA) quotes an army spokesman (Brigadier Osman Mohamed al Aghbash) who confirmed Friday's military operations in Abu Suruj, Sirba and Suleia. The spokesman said many people were killed or wounded, but he did not provide actual figures.
