성 김 과장은 31일 베이징을 거쳐 평양에 도착했으며, 기자들에게 사흘간 평양에 머물면서 북한 관계자들과 의견을 나눌 것이라고 말했습니다.
성 김 과장은 북한이 최대한 빨리 완전한 핵 신고서를 제출하도록 요구할 것으로 보입니다.
북한은 지난해 6자회담 합의에 따라 지난해 11월부터 영변의 주요 핵시설 불능화 작업을 시작했습니다. 하지만 지난 연말까지 완전한 핵 신고서를 제출하기로 한 약속은 이행하지 않고 있습니다.
한편 중국 관영 신화통신은 김정일 국방위원장이 평양을 방문한 중국 외교관들에게 "6자회담 합의사항을 이행해야 한다는 입장에는 변화가 없다"고 말했다고 보도했습니다.

The U.S. State Department's top expert on North Korea is in Pyongyang in hopes of advancing a stalled six-nation nuclear deal.
Sung Kim arrived today (Thursday) in Pyongyang -- after a brief stop in Beijing -- and told reporters he would meet officials for three days.
He is expected to press North Korea to deliver a complete declaration of its atomic weapons program as soon as possible.
North Korea began taking apart its main nuclear plant in November under the six-nation disarmament deal. But it missed an end of the year deadline to account for all of its nuclear weapons programs.
Chinese state media say North Korean leader Kim Jong Il told a visiting Chinese delegation Wednesday his country is committed to the six-nation deal and that current difficulties are temporary.
