이스라엘 국방부 대변인은 이 날 에후드 바락 이스라엘 국방장관의 승인을 받은 인도주의적 지원 물자를 전달할 때를 제외하고, 국경을 봉쇄한다고 밝혔습니다.
이스라엘 당국은 18일 이스라엘 측으로 로켓 옆 발이 발사됐으며, 그 가운데 하나는 스데롯 마을의 보육원 인근에 떨어졌다고 밝혔습니다. 이스라엘 당국자들은 팔레스타인 무장 병력이 지난 3일간 로켓 1백여 발 이상을 발사했다고 밝혔습니다.
이스라엘은 하마스 측 로켓 공격을 중단시키기 위한 군 공격도 계속 진행 중입니다.
팔레스타인 의료 당국은 이 날 가자 북부 지역에서 이스라엘 측의 공습으로 무장병력 1명이 사망하고, 최소 2명이 부상했다고 밝혔습니다. 이번주 이스라엘 측의 공격으로 가자지구에서는 무장병력 등 팔레스타인 인 30명이 사망했습니다.
이스라엘 군이 요르단강 서안에서 수행한 또 다른 작전에서도 팔레스타인 무장 병력 한 명이 사망했습니다.
Israel closed its border with the Gaza Strip today (Friday) in response to continuing rocket fire by Palestinian militants from the Hamas-controlled territory.
An Israeli Defense Ministry spokesman said the border is closed for all traffic, except humanitarian supplies, which are to be approved by Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
Israeli officials say several rockets were fired into Israel today, with one landing near a day care center for children in the town of Sderot. Officials say that Palestinian militants have fired more than 100 rockets in the past three days.
Israel also is continuing its military offensive to stop the rocket fire. Palestinian medical sources say an Israeli air strike in northern Gaza early today killed one militant and wounded at least two others.
About 30 Palestinians, mostly militants, have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza this week.
