미국의 조지 부시 대통령을 수행해 중동을 순방중인 콘돌리자 라이스 국무장관이 15일, 바그다드를 전격 방문했습니다.
라이스 장관은 바그다드에서 가진 기자회견에서 이라크정부의 국가화합노력을 치하하고, 최근 이라크 의회가 사담 후세인의 전 바트당 당원들의 정부 복귀를 허용하는 법안을 통과시킨 것을 환영했습니다.
라이스 장관은, 이 새로운 법안의 통과는 이라크에서 국민화해가 진전되고 있다는 하나의 신호라고 말했습니다. 라이스 장관은 또한 석유수입 공유법안과 지방선거 등 앞으로 해결해야 할 과제가 많이 남아있다고 지적했습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has made an unannounced visit to Baghdad, where she praised recent steps towards national reconciliation.
Speaking at a news conference in the Iraqi capital today (Tuesday), Rice welcomed the Iraqi parliament's recent passage of a law (Saturday) allowing former members of Saddam Hussein's Baath Party to regain government jobs.
Rice said passage of the new law is a sign reconciliation is moving along.
At the same time, she said much more work remains, including passage of a bill on sharing oil revenues and another on provincial elections.
During her brief stay in Baghdad, Rice also briefed Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on President Bush's Middle East tour.
