파키스탄에서 실시된 새 여론조사 결과, 파키스탄 국민의 2/3는 현 국정운영에 불만을 갖고 있으며, 페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령의 사임을 원하는 것으로 드러났습니다.
미국 소재 비영기단체인 국제공화당연구소가 실시한 여론조사에 따르면 응답자의 1/3만이 무샤라프 대통령을 지지한다고 답했습니다. 이번 여론조사는 파키스탄 전역의 주민 3천5백명을 대상으로 실시됐습니다.
이번 조사에 따르면 응답자의 60% 이상은 무샤라프 대통령과 베나지르 부토 전 총리의 단일 정부 구성에도 반대했습니다. 단일 정부안은 미국이 지지하는 방안이기도 합니다.
또한 내년 1월 의회선거를 앞두고 국민들의 과반수 이상 지지를 얻는 정당도 아직 없는 것으로 나타났습니다. 부토 전 총리의 정당이 30%로 선두였으며, 나와즈 샤리프 전 총리의 정당이 25%, 무샤라프 대통령의 정당이 23%로 뒤를 이었습니다.
한편 응답자의 절반 이상은 현재의 비상사태에도 반대했습니다. 무샤라프 대통령은 오는 15일 비상사태를 해제한다는 계획입니다.

A new opinion poll indicates more than two-thirds of Pakistanis are angry at the current state of affairs and want President Pervez Musharraf to resign.
The U.S.-based nonprofit International Republican Institute conducted the survey. It finds only one-third of those polled are supportive of Mr. Musharraf. More than 35-hundred people from all four of Pakistan's provinces were surveyed.
The poll finds nearly 60 percent of Pakistanis oppose a U.S.-backed proposal in which President Musharraf and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto would form a unity government.
The survey found no Pakistani leader holds a majority of support in the run-up to the January eighth parliamentary elections. Thirty percent of those polled chose Ms. Bhutto's party, 25 percent said they support former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's party, and 23 percent backed President Musharraf's party.
A majority of those surveyed also denounced the imposition of emergency rule, which the president is set to lift on Saturday.
