베트남 주민 수백명이 9일 하노이의 중국대사관 앞에서 남사군도 문제에 항의하는 시위를 벌였습니다.
현지 언론에 따르면 베트남 주민들은 이날 하노이 주재 중국 대사관 앞에서 “중국은 물러가라””베트남은 위대하다”등의 구호를 웨치면서 시위를 벌였습니다. 베트남에서 중국에 대한 시위가 발생하는 것은 이례적인 일입니다. 베트남 경찰은 시위가 한 시간정도 진행되는 동안 시위대에 별다른 제지를 가하지 않았습니다.
이에 앞서 중국 해군은 지난 7월 영유권 분쟁이 얽힌 남사군도에서 조업중인 베트남 어선에 발포해 베트남 어부 5명이 부상을 입은 바있습니다.
베트남과 중국은 동남아의 남사군도를 둘러싸고 지난 10년이상 갈등을 벌여왔습니다. 바위섬과 산호초 등으로 이뤄진 남사군도에는 석유와 천연 가스가 매장된 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 현재 남사군도는 베트남과 중국외에도 필리핀, 말레이시아, 브루나이, 대만 등도 영유권을 주장하고있습니다.

Several hundred Vietnamese staged a rare public demonstration today (Sunday) to support their country's claim of sovereignly over the disputed Spratly and Paracel islands.
The demonstrators, mostly students, gathered near the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi and chanted, "Down with China!" and "Long Live Vietnam!"
Police let the demonstration last for about an hour before dispersing the protesters.
The largely uninhabited islands and their surrounding waters are believed to have large oil and natural gas reserves. They straddle busy sea lanes and are rich fishing grounds.
Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei also claim sovereignty over all or some of the Spratlys. The Paracels are also claimed by Taiwan.
China recently established an administrative unit to manage the archipelagos.
