중국을 비롯한 동아시아 지역 경제가 내년에도 활황을 기록할 것이라고, 세계은행이 전망했습니다. 세계은행은 새 보고서를 통해 국제적인 고유가와 미국 경제에 어려움을 가져온 금융위기사태에도 불구하고 아시아 지역 경제는 활황을 누릴 것이라고 분석했습니다.
세계은행은 중국의 경제성장율이 내년에는 10.8% 정도로 올해보다는 떨어지겠지만, 여전이 매우 강력한 성장세를 기록할 것이라고 전망했습니다. 또 인도네시아와 한국은 각각 6.4%와 5.1%로 경제성장이 가속화할 것으로 예측했습니다.
이 보고서는 하지만 현재 배럴당 90달러선으로 역대 최고치를 기록하고 있는 국제유가가 내년에도 비슷한 수준으로 유지된다면, 아시아 국가들의 국내총생산이 1% 정도 줄어들 것이라고 경고했습니다.
이 보고서는 또 동아시아 지역에서 하루에 2달러 이하로 생활하는 빈곤층이 5억명 이하로 줄어들었다면서, 이는 1990년에 비하면 절반 수준이라고 지적했습니다.

A new World Bank report says China and other East Asian economies are likely to remain robust in 2008, in spite of higher oil prices and the subprime crisis that is hurting the U.S. market.
The bank says China's roaring growth will probably ease to 10-point-eight percent, which is still very strong.
Indonesia's growth is projected to increase slightly to six-point-four percent with Korea's growth also accelerating to five-point-one percent.
But the report warns that if oil prices remain at their current high levels around 90 dollars a barrel, it could cut about one percent from the GDP of many Asian economies.
The bank says the number of poor people in East Asia getting by on just two dollars a day has fallen below 500-million, which is half the level of such poverty seen in 1990.
