이란의 마무드 아마디네자드 대통령은 7일, 이란이 우라늄 농축을 위해 3천개의 원심분리기를 가동하는 핵계획의 목표를 달성했다고 밝혔습니다.
아마디네자드 대통령은 이란 동부의 비르잔드 시에서 열린 한 대중집회에서 이같이 말했습니다. 이에 앞서 이란은 나탄츠 핵시설에서 수천개의 원심분리기를 설치했다고 밝힌 바 있습니다. 이날 아마디네자드 대통령의 발표는 이란이 이 원심분리기들이 완전히 가동되고 있음을 밝힌 첫번째 공식 발언입니다.
서방 국가 전문가들은 3천개의 원심분리기들이 이상적인 조건에서 가동될 경우, 이란이 앞으로 약 1년 이내에 원자탄 한개를 제조할 수 있는 양의 농축 우라늄을 만들 수 있을 것으로 보고 있습니다.
한편, 프랑스의 사르코지 대통령은 6일, 워싱턴에서 핵무기가 이란의 현지도자들 손에 들어간다는 생각을 프랑스는 받아들일 수 없다고 말했습니다.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says his country has reached a key nuclear target of operating three-thousand centrifuges for enriching uranium.
Mr. Ahmadinejad spoke today (Wednesday) at a public rally in the eastern Iranian city of Birjand.
Iran has said previously that it successfully installed the thousands of centrifuges at its nuclear facility in Natanz. Today's announcement is the first official statement that the centrifuges are fully functioning.
Western experts say three-thousand centrifuges operating in ideal conditions could possibly make enough enriched uranium for an atomic bomb in about a year. The United States and other Western nations accuse Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons, a charge Tehran denies.
Speaking Tuesday in Washington, French President Nicolas Sarkozy said the idea of nuclear weapons in the hands of Iran's current leaders is unacceptable to his country.
