국제언론감시단체인 ‘국경없는 기자들’은 북한과 중국, 베트남, 라오스등을 세계 10대 최악의 언론탄압 국가로 선정했습니다.
파리에 본부를 둔 ‘국경없는 기자들’은 16일 발표한 2007년도 세계 언론자유 보고서에서, 특히 버마의 민주화 시위 유혈진압을 지적하며, 특히 버마상황에 우려한다고 말했습니다.
올해 169개 조사대상국 가운데 최악의 언론탄압 국가로는 에르트리아가 꼽혔으며, 북한은 168위로 그 뒤를 이었습니다. 스리랑카는 156위, 파키스탄은 152위를 각각 기록했습니다.
‘국경없는 기자들’은 또한 중국이 2008 베이징 올림픽이 다가옴에도 불구하고 당초 약속했던 개혁약속을 이행하지 않고, 구속된 언론인들도 석방하지 않고 있다고 실망감을 표시했습니다.

A media advocacy group says North Korea, Burma, China, Vietnam and Laos are among the 10 worst countries in the world for freedom of the press.
In its annual World Press Freedom index released today (Tuesday), Reporters Without Borders said it is particularly disturbed by the situation in Burma. The Paris-based group cited the military government's crackdown on demonstrations.
The group also expressed disappointment that China had not followed through on promised reforms and the release of journalists, even as the 2008 Beijing Olympics approach.
North Korea -- 168th out of 169 countries on the index -- was replaced this year by Eritrea as the worst country for press freedom.
