이들은 문부성이 역사 교과서 출판업자들에게 내린, 태평양전쟁중 많은 민간인들이 일본군에 의해 집단자살을 강요당했다는 부분을 삭제하라는 지시를 철회할 것을 요구하고 있습니다.
1945년 미군의 오키나와 침공 직전에 일본군들은 주민들에게 수류탄을 건네주면서 미군에 생포될 운명에 처한 자신과 가족들이 자폭하라고 명령했습니다.
문부성은 이날 시위에 대해 논평하지 않았습니다.

Okinawan politicians, educators and residents are among those who participated in today's (Saturday's) rally outside the provincial capital, Naha.
The activists are demanding the Education Ministry reverse instructions to publishers to remove references to the forced mass suicide of civilians by the Japanese Imperial Army during World War Two.
Japanese soldiers handed out grenades to Okinawan residents in 1945 before the U.S. invasion, and ordered them to kill themselves and their families rather than face capture by American forces.
The Education Ministry has not commented on the rally.
The demonstration is said to be the largest on Okinawa since the United States returned the island to Japan 35 years ago.
