나와즈 샤리프 전 총리가 이끄는 파키스탄 야당 연합 소속의원들은 페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령의 재임 추진에 항의해서 동반 사퇴할 계획이라고 27일 발표했습니다.
이들은 대통령 선거를 나흘 앞둔 다음달 2일 연방과 지역 의회에서 모두 사퇴할 예정이라고 말했습니다.
파키스탄 의회에서는 무샤라프 대통령이 다수 의석을 확보하고 있기 때문에, 이들의 사퇴로 선거가 취소되지는 않습니다. 하지만 선거의 신뢰성에 타격을 줄 수 있습니다.
야당연합의 사임 발표는 다음달 6일 선거를 앞두고 파키스탄 정국의 혼란이 계속되고 있는 가운데 나왔습니다.
한편 27일 대법원은 반정부 시위 도중 체포된 시민운동가를 석방하라는 결정을 내렸습니다.
또 페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령은 이 날 공식적으로 후보 등록을 했습니다. 파키스탄 수도 이슬라마바드에서는 추가 시위를 막기 위해서 수백명의 경찰이 거리를 봉쇄했습니다.

An alliance of opposition parties led by the party of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif says it will resign from parliament to protest President General Musharraf's bid to win another term in office in next week's election.
The All Parties Democratic Movement announced it will resign from the federal and provincial parliaments on October second -- just four days before the presidential ballot.
The resignations will not derail the vote held by the parliament and provincial assemblies because General Musharraf holds a majority. But the move could be perceived as hurting the election's credibility.
The announcement came after several developments related to the political turmoil surrounding the October sixth election. Earlier today (Thursday), the chief justice of the Supreme Court ordered authorities to release opposition activists detained during a crackdown on anti-government protests.
Also today (Thursday), President Musharraf officially registered to run for another term along with two other opposition candidates.
Hundreds of riot police and security forces sealed the streets of the capital, Islamabad, in anticipation of more demonstrations against the president's attempt to stay in power.
Tensions are high as Pakistanis await Supreme Court rulings, expected Friday, on several petitions challenging General Musharraf's eligibility to run for office while remaining chief of the military.
