세계무역기구, WTO는 중국에서 영화, 음악, 컴퓨터 응용 소프트웨어등과 같이 저작권의 보호를 받는 상품들의 지적 재산권이 제대로 보호받지 않고 있다는 미국의 불만에 대해 공식적인 조사에 착수했습니다.
WTO 산하 분쟁조정위원회는 25일 제네바에서 중국의 지적재산권 보호 문제에 대해 조사를 시작한다고 공식 발표했습니다.
미국은 지난 4월 중국에 저작권과 상표권을 의무화하는 구조적 장치가 미흡하고, WTO의 기준에 부합하지 않다고 주장했습니다.
중국은 처음에 이 같은 주장에 대해 미국을 규탄하고, WTO가 미국의 주장을 접수하지 못하도록 했습니다. 하지만 두번째 불만은 접수하지 않을 수 없다는 WTO의 규정에 따라 이번에 공식적인 조사가 시작된 것입니다.
중국은 저작권을 보호하기 위해서 불법복제 행위 방지 조치를 취하고 있다고 주장하고 있습니다.

The WTO's dispute settlement body announced the formal investigation today (Tuesday) in Geneva.
The United States filed a WTO complaint in April claiming China's structure for enforcing copyright and trademark protections is deficient and fails to comply with WTO rules.
China initially blocked the WTO from considering the U.S. complaint and has criticized the United States for seeking the investigation. However, under WTO rules it could not block the investigation a second time.
China is considered a leading source of illegally copied DVDs, CDs, and computer
software.
