Hundreds of supporters of Peru's former President Alberto Fujimori rallied in Lima as he returned from Chile to face corruption and other charges.
But the police airplane carrying him was diverted to an air force base on the other side of the city. His daughter Keiko -- who is a member of Peru's congress -- says it was a dirty trick by the government. Mr. Fujimori was then flown by helicopter to a police base where he will be held until his trial.
About 700 supporters waved flags and banners at the airport Saturday night. They said they want to make sure the former president gets a fair trial.
Mr. Fujimori is accused of corruption and sanctioning the killing of 25 people by paramilitary squads during his 10-year presidency.
