그러나 파키스탄내 야당 정치인들은 무샤라프 대통령의 출마가 허용될 경우 의정활동 중단과 함께 전국적인 시위를 펼칠 것이라고 다짐했습니다. 이들은 무샤라프 대통령이 이미 지난 1999년 쿠데타로 권좌에 오른 이후 이미 2번의 임기를 마쳤다며, 이제 군 통수권자의 자격에서 물러나야 한다며 대법원에 소송을 제기했습니다.
무샤라프 대통령은 앞서 변호사를 통해, 재선에 성공하면 군 최고 통수권자직에서 사퇴할 것이라고 말한 바 있습니다.
