Witnesses say security forces watched the monks today (Tuesday) as they tried to reach the famous Shwedagon pagoda.
The peaceful show of dissent is one of many demonstrations that have taken place since the government doubled the price of fuel in August. Officials say the price hike was in line with high world oil prices.
On Monday, at least 400 monks staged a peaceful protest in a town (Kyaukpadaung) about 650 kilometers north of Rangoon. No arrests were reported.
