이라크의 누리 알 말리키 총리는 오늘(10일) 이라크내 치안상태가 전국에 걸쳐 이전보다 눈에 뜨이게 나아지고 있으나 미 연합군으로부터 완전히 치안권을 넘겨받기 위해서는 시간이 더 필요하다고 국회의원들에게 말했습니다.
말리키 총리는 오늘 국회 연설에서 수도 바그다드와 서부 알 안바르주내 폭력 수위가 지난 2월 미군 증파 이후 75% 감소했다고 말했습니다.
말리키 총리는 또 이라크 정부가 국내 혼란이 내전으로 치닫는 상황을 성공적으로 막고 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
말리키 총리는 이라크 국내에서 파벌간의 상쟁을 극복해 종파간 화합을 이루기 위한 교량 역할을 다하지 못하고 있다는 비난에 직면해 있습니다.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has told lawmakers that although security gains have been made across the country, his forces need more time to take over full security responsibility from U.S.-led forces.
In an address to parliament today (Monday), Mr. Maliki said violence levels in Baghdad and the western province of al-Anbar had dropped 75 percent since the U.S.-led troop surge began in February.
The prime minister told lawmakers that his government has achieved success in preventing Iraq from slipping into a civil war.
Mr. Maliki has face widespread criticism for failing to bridge sectarian divides.
On Sunday, he asked neighboring countries to help stop what he called "evil forces" from destabilizing the region.
