일본을 방문중인 독일의 앙겔라 메르켈 총리는 29일 아베 신조 일본 총리와 회담을 갖고 기후 변화 등 지구 공동의 문제를 논의했습니다.
아베 총리는 이에 앞서 내각 전체에 일본의 환경 친화적 정책인, 이른바 '쿨 비즈' 운동을 지지하는 일환으로 넥타이를 메지 말라고 지시한 바 있습니다. 이 홍보 활동은 사무원들과 정치인들이 더운 날씨에 에어컨 전력 사용량을 줄이기 위해 윗 옷과 넥타이없이 근무하는 것으로, 온실 가스 방출량과 관련돼 있습니다.
메르켈 총리는 일본의 고도, 교토도 방문할 예정입니다. 10년 전 교토에서 현재의 온실 가스 배출량 기준이 논의 됐었습니다. 메르켈 총리는 2012년 '교토 의정서' 만료 이후 이를 대체할 새로운 국제 협약 체결을 추진 중입니다.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is in Japan to discuss climate change and other global issues.
Ms. Merkel met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo today (Wednesday).
Mr. Abe pointed out that no one in his entire delegation was wearing a tie, in support of Japan's environmentally-friendly "Cool Biz" (or "business") campaign. The campaign urges office workers and politicians to take off their jackets and ties during warm weather to reduce the use of electricity and air-conditioners, which are linked to greenhouse gas emissions.
Later, Ms. Merkel is to travel to Japan's ancient city of Kyoto, where the current protocol limiting greenhouse gas emissions was negotiated 10 years ago. The chancellor is pushing for a new global agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol when it expires in 2012.
