레바논 정부는 경찰이 레바논 북부의 난민촌에서 정부군과 싸우고 있는 이슬람 무장세력의 고위급 지도자 한 명을 사살했다고 밝혔습니다.
하사스 사베 레바논 내무장관은 6일 늦게 열린 각료회의에서, 파타 알-이슬람의 부사령관인 아부 후레이라가 지난 주 트리폴리 시에서 경찰과 교전 중 사망했다고 말했습니다.
사베 장관은 DNA 검사와 가족들에 의해 후레이라의 시신이 확인됐다고 말했습니다.
현재 레바논 군에 포위돼 나르 알-바레드 난민촌의 한 구석에 몰려 있는 파타 알-이슬람은 계속 카츄샤 로켓을 발사해 난민촌 주변 지역에서 민간인 사상자 발생을 초래하고 있습니다.
The Lebanese government says police have killed a top leader of the Islamic militants battling the army at a refugee camp in northern Lebanon.
Interior Minister Hassas Sabeh told a cabinet meeting late Monday that Abu Hureira -- the deputy commander of Fatah al-Islam -- was killed and a companion wounded in a shootout with police in the city of Tripoli last week.
The minister said the Islamic commander's body was later identified through DNA tests and also by family members.
The Fatah al-Islam group, which is now said to be under the army's siege in one corner of the Nahr al-Bared refugee camp, has repeatedly fired Katyusha rockets, causing civilian casualties in areas surrounding the camp.
The fighting at the camp near Tripoli, which has been raging since May 20th, has killed more than 200 people, including 125 soldiers.
