콘돌리자 라이스 미국 국무장관은 30일, 이집트에 대한 총 130억달러의 군사원조와 이스라엘에 대한 총300억 달러 규모의 군사원조계획을 발표했습니다.
라이스 장관은 이날, 워싱턴에서 이라크 안정에 대한지지를 얻어내기 위해 로버트 게이츠 국방장관과 함께 중동 순방에 나서기에 앞서 이같은 군사원조계획을 발표했습니다.
라이스 장관은 이집트와 이스라엘에 대한 이같은 원조가 앞으로 10년간에 걸쳐 제공될 것이라고 말했습니다. 라이스 장관은 또 사우디 아라비아와 걸프 아랍국가들과도 새로운 원조협정을 추진하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
라이스 장관은 미국은 이란과 시리아, 알-카에다, 레바논의 시아파 무장세력인 헤즈볼라의 부정적인 영향에 대처하기 위해 온건한 국가들의 지지를 모색하고 있다고 말했습니다.
라이스 국무장관과 게이츠 국방장관은 이집트의 휴양도시 샤름 엘-셰이크에서 고위 관계자들과 회담하고 나서 사우디 아라비아 젯다를 방문할 계획입니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has announced a proposed 13-billion dollar military aid deal with Egypt and a 30-billion dollar military package for Israel.
Rice made the announcement in Washington before leaving today (Monday) with Defense Secretary Robert Gates on a trip to the Middle East to seek support for stabilizing Iraq.
Rice said the military assistance deals with Egypt and Israel will be for a 10-year period. She also said the U.S. is forging new assistance agreements with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Arab states.
Rice said the U.S. is seeking to support the forces of moderation to counter what she called the negative influences of Iran, Syria, al-Qaida, and Lebanon's Shi'ite militant group Hezbollah.
Rice and Gates plan meet with top officials in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh and then travel to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
