29일 중국에 도착한 폴슨 장관은 베이징에서 후진타오 중국 국가주석과 중국의 금융개혁을 이끌고 있는 우이 부총리를 만나기에 앞서 중국 서부 청해성의 청해호를 방문합니다.
로이터통신은 폴슨 장관이 청해호의 수온이 상승해 수량이 줄어들고 빙하가 녹고있음을 지적하고, 청해호는 기후변화로 인한 문제를 잘 보여주고 있다고 말했다고 보도했습니다.
폴슨 장관은 또 증가하는 중국의 대 미국 무역흑자를 완화할 수 있도록 중국이 화폐가치를 더 인상하도록 압력을 가할 예정입니다.

Henry Paulson is visiting western China's Qinghai Lake before going to Beijing to meet China's president, Hu Jintao, and a vice premier in charge of financial reform (Wu Yi).
Reuters news agency quotes Paulson as saying Qinghai Lake illustrates the problems of climate change because rising temperatures are shrinking the lake and melting glaciers. The salt-water lake feeds several major Asian rivers.
Paulson is pushing China to allow its currency to strengthen further, which would reduce the country's ballooning trade surplus with the U.S.
Paulson arrived in China Sunday.
