이집트와 요르단의 외무장관들이 이끄는 아랍연맹 대표단이 25일 이스라엘 예루살렘에서 이스라엘 지도자들과 만나 중동 평화 방안을 논의할 계획입니다.
이번 회동은 이스라엘이 1967년 제3차 중동전쟁 때 점령한 땅을 모두 반환하는 댓가로 아랍국가들이 이스라엘의 생존권을 인정해 중동 평화안을 논의하기 위해 열리는 것입니다.
이집트의 아미드 아불 게이트 외무장관과 요르단의 압델 일라 알 카티브 장관은 이 날 아랍국들을 대표해 이스라엘에 도착했습니다. 22개국이 소속된 아랍연맹의 대표가 이스라엘을 방문하는 것은 이번이 처음입니다.
이집트의 게이트 외무장관은 이스라엘에서 기자들과 만나 아랍국가들에 이스라엘의 긍정적인 반응을 전달하게 되길 바란다고 밝혔습니다.
한편, 신임 중동 특사인 토니 블레어 전 영국 총리는 24일 예루살렘과 요르단강 서안에서의 이틀째 연쇄 회담을 마치면서, 중동 평화 중재의 가능성이 있다고 생각한다고 말한 바 있습니다.

Egypt's Ahmed Abul Gheit and Jordan's Abdel Ilah al-Khatib arrived in Israel today
(Wednesday) as representatives of the Arab League -- the first time the 22-member
group has sent a delegation to Israel.
Speaking to reporters in Jerusalem, Gheit said he hoped to convey to the Arab League "a positive response" from Israel.
Israel, which rejected the plan when it was first launched in 2002, has since said that, if amended, it could provide a basis for talks.
On Tuesday, the new international Mideast envoy, Tony Blair, ended two days of talks
in Jerusalem and the West Bank, saying he thinks "there is a sense of possibility" in the region.
