중국 국가품질 감독검사검역총국은 20일 이같이 밝히며 이들 2개 기업은 미국으로 수출하는 일부 단백질 제품에 불법적으로 멜라민을 넣었다고 설명했습니다.
지난 3월 미국에서는 인체에 유해한 멜라민 성분이 들어간 중국산 밀단백질을 먹고 애완동물이 폐사하는 사태가 발생했었습니다.
이같은 조치는 최근 중국 중앙정부의 불법 제조된 식약품을 소탕하려는 노력의 일환에서 나온 것입니다.
미국 식약 당국은 중국산 수입 해산물 5종에 대해서도 금지 성분이 들어있다며 수입 제한 조치를 내린 바 있습니다.
China's product safety watchdog says it has revoked the business licenses of two firms that exported wheat protein tainted with toxic chemicals to the United States.
The General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said today (Friday) that the two companies unlawfully added melamine in some of its products. The tainted wheat gluten from the companies ended up in pet food in the United States, and was blamed for a spate of dog and cat deaths.
The action by the administration is the latest in a series of moves by Beijing to try to clean up its drug and food industries.
Fears abroad over Chinese-made drugs were sparked last year after contaminated medical ingredients from China killed patients in Panama.
The U.S. food and drug administration has also banned imports of five types of seafood from China because of concerns the seafood is contaminated with potentially dangerous antibiotics.
